Bullying in Schools

The Face of Bullying and Cyberbullying in K-12 School

  • Every year, 18 million students are bullied
  • Every year, 8.3 million students are absent to avoid being bullied
  • 1 out of 10 students drop out permanently to avoid being bullied
  • 1 in 4 student suicides are linked to bullying and harassment

The majority of students witness bullying and believe they have no power to stop it. This adds to the mounting sense of fear and powerlessness pervading our classrooms.
Bullying and cyberbullying are two of the most destructive problems in every school in the United States. Bullying does not discriminate by socioeconomic status, gender or origin. Whether a student is being bullied, participating in bullying or is a bystander who watches as incidents occur, the devastating effects of bullying undermine the ability to learn in an environment of safety and respect.
The majority of educators and parents are ill equipped to recognize and prevent this problem. Without effective bullying prevention and recognition training, the problem only continues to harm our young people.

The Impact of Bullying and Cyberbullying

As you're certainly aware, the consequences of bullying and cyberbullying can be tragic. Bullying and cyberbullying contribute to:

  • Suicide- victims of bullying are 2-9 times more likely to consider it
  • Adults preying on young people
  • Self-mutilation
  • Sexual promiscuity
  • Young peoples’ online posts and images cannot ever be removed from the internet
  • Truancy
  • Poor academic achievement

Project Bully Free Zone's Solution

Project Bully Free Zone’s founder Traciana Graves, a veteran educator and teacher, recognizes how many intense obligations teachers are required to recognize throughout the school day. Because bullying is easily overlooked in a busy classroom, our founder, Traciana Graves, has developed unique programs and workshops aimed at helping students, staff, teachers, and administrators develop their voices and build bully free zones. We are fanatics about developing long-lasting and sustainable change, which is why each program Traciana has developed engages and encourages students to use the skills they learn for years after they attend the workshop.
Project Bully Free Zone believes that creating workshops that address everybody who interacts with the school—from parents, teachers and students to the greater community—is the key.
